For several weeks now, the “Research Centre for Peace, Human Rights and the Defence of the Biosphere” in Viterbo has been gathering support for another form of pressure for the release of Leonard Peltier, who has been unjustly imprisoned for 45 and a half years in a maximum-security prison in the United States.
In Italy, new signatures from the worlds of culture, activism, politics and trade unionism are joining every day (see the list here).
It is proposed to write to the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, and to the secretariat of the Presidency.
Below is a draft letter that everyone can personalise and some relevant email addresses to send it to:

Dear President of the European Parliament, we would like to ask you, and through you the European Parliament and the entire European Union, to take a humanitarian initiative to free Leonard Peltier, the illustrious Native American human rights activist, a victim of ruthless political persecution, who has been unjustly imprisoned since 1976 after a sham trial in which he was accused of crimes he did not commit.
In the hope of receiving a prompt reply, I send you my best regards.
(Place and date, signature and sender’s address)
We would of course be grateful if you could also send copies of your letters or statements of solidarity with Leonard Peltier to our e-mail addresses: centropacevt@gmail.com and bigoni.gastone@gmail.com, as well as to the media and other interlocutors whom you wish to inform or encourage to participate.
More information about Leonard Peltier’s story can be found on the official website of the International Leonard Peltier Advocacy Committee: www.whoisleonardpeltier.info.
