Following the 9-11 attacks, the Bush Administration launched a “war on terrorism,” featuring the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, and unlawful prisons in Guantanamo and elsewhere. Twenty years later, the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan has triggered fresh debate about the ongoing “war on terrorism” and the role of militarism in American foreign policy.
This important forum will draw on personal experiences to consider some overlooked human consequences of these policies, and the choices we should make going forward.
